Yangon - Kyiaktiyo - Mandalay - Bagan - Mt. Popa - Pindaya

with an overnight at a monastery on a mountain
and a visit to the famous Golden Rock.

Day
01 Yangon arrival (based on morning flight).
Transfer to the hotel and begin sightseeing including
colorful downtown Yangon, Chaukhtatkyi, a colossal
reclining Buddha; a scenic photo stop on beautiful
Kandawgyi Lake and the Shwedagon Pagoda, arguably
the world's most impressive golden stupa. O/N

Day
02 Yangon - Kyiaktiyo (car) Golden Rock
Drive north to Bago and then south into the Mon
State to Kyiaktiyo- home of the famous 'Golden
Rock', a large boulder which balances delicately
on the edge of a mountain and is one of the most
revered Buddhist shrines in the country. O/N Kyiaktiyo

03 Kyiaktiyo - Yangon (car) and Yangon - Mandalay
(flight)
Morning drive back to Yangon and take the afternoon
flight to Mandalay. O/N Mandalay.

04 Inwa and Mandalay
Visit the former royal capital of Amrapura and
see U Bein's Bridge, the world's longest teakwood
bridge. Then visit Inwa, another former royal
capital and travel by pony cart down tree-lined
paths to see old palace walls, wooden monasteries
and the 'leaning tower of Ava'. Back in Mandalay
sightseeing includes, gold leaf hammering, Mahamuni
pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery, noted for its exquisite
wood carvings; and Kuthodaw Pagoda, renowned as
the world's largest book for its stone slabs of
the entire Buddhist scriptures.O/N Mandalay

Day
05 Amarapura sightseeing and Monywa (by car)
Morning visit to the former royal capital of Amarapura
where we can see the world's longest teakwood
bridge. Then continue on our way to Monywa (about
3 hours drive) where we can see the very colorful
Thanboddy pagoda which is quite different from
pagodas visitors will see elsewhere in Myanmar.

06 Monywa
Today we take a short boat ride across the Chindwin
river from Monywa and then drive about 45 minutes
to the intriguing Po Win Taung caves. These shallow
sandstone caves contain many Buddha images and
interesting frescoes (paintings) on some of the
cave walls. Return to Monywa and drive back to
Mandalay. O/N Mandalay

07 Mandalay - Bagan (boat)
Early morning departure from Mandalay for Bagan
by modern ferryboat service. A pleasant way to
spend the day as you travel on the fabled Ayeyarwaddy
River. Arrive in Bagan by late afternoon, in time
for evening sightseeing. O/N Bagan

08 Bagan
A full days visit to Bagan's unique pagodas, colorful
local market, and also see some of Bagan's famous
lacquerware being handcrafted. O/N Bagan

09 Bagan - Mt. Popa (car)
After breakfast take a short drive
to Mt. Popa, said to have risen from the earth
in a volcanic eruption in 442 BC. Enroute visit
a local toddy palm farm. Arrive at scenic Popa
Mt. Resort in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure
or hiking on the local trails. O/N Popa Mt. Resort

10 Mt. Popa - Pindaya (car)
Morning departure for
scenic full days drive to the Shan state town
of Pindaya, famous for its limestone caves containing
thousands of Buddha images. O/N Pindaya

11 Pindaya - Inle Lake (car)
Sightseeing
of Pindaya caves and their more than 8,000 Buddha
images and also visit a small family run Shan
umbrella making business and see how these beautiful
umbrellas are handcrafted. Drive to Inle Lake

12 Inle Lake (car)
Sightseeing
on this magical and unique lake where highlights
include the boatmen with their 'one-legged' rowing
style, the floating gardens, the 'jumping cats'
monastery and more. O/N Inle Lake

13 Inle Lake
Take a scenic boat
ride up one of the creeks that feeds into Inle
lake to reach the idyllic site of Indain with
its 16th century pagodas. Visit a silk weaving
factory that sits on stilts on the lake. O/N Inle

14 Heho - Yangon (flight), Yangon sightseeing
Morning flight to Yangon and after
check-in at the hotel, Yangon sightseeing including
a visit to Chinatown and to Scott market, a
sprawling 79 year old complex filled with Myanmar
handicrafts and which is an excellent last chance
for a shopping spree. O/N Yangon
